SeptemJustin Santana is a 15 year old sophomore at Wauconda High School that is active in football and is loved by all his friends. Recently he was taken to the hospital because he was complaining of breathing problems. He was diagnosed with blood clots in both lungs with a 20% loss in one lung, and blood clots in his left leg. Blood clots are common when you are in an accident but Justin wasn’t in one. The doctors have no explanation as to how Justin contracted the blood clots except that it could be a genetic condition. The doctors are hoping the clots do not move because he could have an embolism which could be fatal! He was in intensive care for several weeks and recently had surgery on the clot in his leg. He is in and out of the hospital with months of recovery ahead of him. Justin will need care and medication for the rest of his life.
Justin’s family does not have insurance to cover the medical and hospital costs.
